King’s Taunton Strings

Last Friday our string players had a great time at King’s Col- lege, Taunton. We teamed up with other schools and we played and learned three pieces in a few hours: The Can Can, Spooks and Magic Carpet Ride. At the end of the day we performed all three of our pieces in a concert before heading back to school. During the day, we listened to the King’s School string orchestra, learned some new, useful and interesting bowing and pizzicato techniques, and we all had a great time.

Prep Schools Challenge

Screen Shot 2014-11-14 at 15.03.43Tom Edwards, Alex Gooch, Roshan Patel and their captain, Henry Allan-Jones, competed in the Prep Schools’ Challenge on Sunday at Monmouth School for Boys. They won two out of three of their quizzes and scored an impressive total of 570 points but they were pipped at the post and robbed of their place in the semi-final. They acquitted themselves very well indeed and very confidently won many of the starter questions. Well done to all of the boys for a very creditable performance in the quiz.

Year 2 visit to the SS Great Britain

Year 2 had a fabulous trip to the SS Great Britain this week. We participated in an engineering workshop and learned to ‘hot rivet’ We also travelled back in time to 1843 to help launch the ship.
Eddie our guide (and new best friend) thanked the children for ‘making his year as they were so well-behaved, polite and enthusiastic’. He said it made his job a joy to do.
The children were also very popular with a group of German tourists who were impressed with how smart they looked and how well-mannered they were. Well done, Year 2!
